Cannabis Plant Health

Currently we have two cannabis plant health tests available but are in the process of adding to our suite of tests.

These tests are:

  • Gender ID – used to detect whether your plant is the useful female plant
  • Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd) – to ensure that plants are free of this virus that while does not kill the plant, does reduce its cannabinoid content and yield.  This is known as ‘dudding’.  Our test will confirm the presence of HLVd even if there are no obvious symptoms.

These tests do not involve plants or leaves being sent to our lab for testing.

dnature has developed an innovative process to rapidly detect Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd) and the sex of cannabis plants without the need to receive your actual leaf samples.

Currently we have two cannabis plant health tests available but are in the process of adding further tests.  These tests are:

  • Gender ID – used to detect whether your plant is the useful female plant.
  • Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd) – used to to ensure that plants are free of this virus. This virus is a small piece of infectious RNA that, as the name suggests, was first discovered in hops.

Work at dnature has shown that it is highly prevalent among New Zealand cultivars. As a genetic relative of hops,  HLVd can also infect cannabis where its effects are more severe.  Some cultivars may not show obvious symptoms, such as leaf curl, but will produce lower levels of cannabinoids (known as dudding) and yield.
