Saliva testing for COVID-19

John Mackay, our technical director, speaks to Wallace Chapman from Radio New Zealand on the issues of using saliva testing for detecting COVID-19.
John has developed a COVID-19 qPCR kit, that is being used in hospitals and laboratories throughout New Zealand, and has now also developed a test that can detect the new variants of COVID-19. These variants of concern are B.1.1.7 (UK strain), B.1.351 (South African strain) and P1 (Brazilian strain).
The dnature COVID-19 qPCR kit is currently used on nasopharyngeal samples as well as being compatible with saliva samples.
